My First Card!!!

Aloha Everyone. Every week SCS has different challenges to inspire and get your creative juices flowing. I was a little weary about participating in a challenge but I decided to give it a try. After all, you have to start somewhere. You can only learn from doing!

My first challenge was a Sketch Challenge where you have to follow a layout provided by the wonderful SCS moderators and designers. HERE you can find the stetch design that I attempted--SC137. Because I am new to card making and new to stamping, I didn't have a lot of great things to work with and absolutely no stamps. Instead, I had to make use of cardstock and patterns.
This is the very first card I created. Yea for me!!!

I started by using my Fiskar paper cutter to cut out a 5 1/2 x 9 piece of cardstock and, when folded in half, create a 4 1/2" x 5 1/2" card. Simple as that.

I then cut out another piece of cardstock that will act as my second layer (this is the lighter blue color). This piece measured 5" x 3".

I then cut out another piece of cardstock that is 1" wide and fits the height of the card perfectly(this is the white piece). Then cut another peice that will fit inside the 1 inch piece and act as a frame (this is the red piece that acutally looks pink, sorry!).

For the heart, I used a pattern that I bought at Wal-Mart and cut it out on the same red paper (that looks pink). To finish it off, I added three Prima brand flowers as a border on the long skinny piece with a button on the middle flower.

Taaaddddaaaa!!! Now you try!

Paper: royal blue, red, white cardstock
Embellishments: Prima flowers, buttons
