Another Scrappin Weekend

I had so much fun last weekend doing nothing but scrappin that I decided that my weekends are going to be devoted to creating layouts. The only problem is that I am running out of photos to scrap! Fortunately it has been a busy, busy Saturday. This week in Hawaii has been Air Force week and to end the festivities there was a Flower Parade along Ala Moana. The parade was so beautiful!

So I decided to get busy and create my layout for the Flower Parade. This week's Scrapbook Sketch Challenge was a Doozy to say the least and I also paired it with the Theme Challenge. Putting the two together was quite a challenge but I think I did okay. I had to play with the sketch because the page is 8 1/2" x 11" and I started before thinking my process all the way through. My page is a piece of yellow card stock and I began by sketching the flowers and swirls along the right side and coloring those in. This was SO TIME CONSUMING! I'm not sure if you can see in the photo but the flowers fade from sky blue at the bottom to violet at the top to fit with the Changes in the Wind theme challenge.

Next I took a pie plate and traced a circle around the paper and then used a green gel pen to draw the squiggly border. Next I used the Fiskars Texture Plates-leaves to dry emboss a small section in the middle of the paper that is approximately 2" wide. This is where I got ahead of myself. I should have put a different color here but, what's done is done and I like it anyway. Whew, now that the hard part is over on to the photos. I took my first photo and matted it on dark blue card stock and then distressed the edges. I then layered that on a piece of basic white, scalloped the edges, and drew faux stitching along the edges. I mounted that in the middle of my page making sure to not cover my hard work :) I then cut a 2" square, scalloped those edges and added a oval of basic white to write my journaling. On the corner I added a pretty pink flower with a bright blue button as the center. Finally I cut out a huge red heart to overlay the photo and wrote Flower Parade in the top left with a green gel pen.

This is by far the most time consuming layout I have ever created. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. There was another celebration today as well and you will be hearing about it later :) Mahalo for visiting :)
